Finding Michael | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Julia Raeside Times (UK) The eternal tale of privileged men going off to fulfil their destiny, often to the detriment of family, is the subtext here. MARGARET S It was an amazing movie. Not sure about all the comments about privilege. The movie was about grief and how we deal with losing a family member. Highly recommended. Clearly you need to be wealthy to search for a body on Everest. That is a given, if you can look past that obvious part you will be treated to a moving search for the body but mostly for the part of you that was taken with the death of the one you loved. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/12/24 Full Review Anna M spencer's reality tv labelled as a documentary is advertised as a recovery mission which only succeeds in mirroring the travesty of people' egotistical everest mission. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/05/24 Full Review Michelle P This movie was excellent! It is very helpful to watch the youtube video called "Finding Michael Matthews-Everest Lost in the death zone" to get the full back story around this expedition. I wish I had watched that first because it adds incredible detail to the overall story. Just a thought. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/24 Full Review S L The idea had merit. But then having to watch a well groomed and presented wife discuss the loss of Michael with her ruggedly handsome husband immediately turned me off. All set up. All rehearsed. The rich family with fancy cars, extravagant property and dripping in jewellery was repugnant given the context of the documentary. The friends and colleagues of Michael seemed far more sincere and authentic than the family. I felt truly sorry for them in this documentary. Offering to bring a Sherpa's body down from the mountain seemed like an after thought to win good graces and I felt incredibly bad for all the Sherpa families who have to tolerate these rich kids and parents. The documentary could have been positioned so much better without all the affluent context and visualisation. The documentary seemed like a grab for fame by the family. It ended up highlighting the massive gap between the rich and the poor - with the poor giving their lives to entertain the perilous requests of these entitled people. Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/16/24 Full Review Mr K The was the most out of touch documentary I've ever seen. At one point I had to check with a Google Search to confirm it was not a parody. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/31/23 Full Review EPC1948 R Putting other people unnecessarily at risk for the sake of publicity is unforgivable. The film is about himself and publicity for his family. He stayed in a safe place in the phone whilst others risked their lives... He might as well stayed in the UK at home.
